Driver Troubleshooting

Third party firewall is present, 0xc0000005 exceptions occur b/c the 3rd party firewall blocks local NETBIOS ports used by system services – those services that use "NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK" as user name like sysmainSuperfetch, for example. The services all run under "svchost" and too often the 3rd party Firewall’s block some/all network svchost activity or severely interfere with them.

Anyone experiencing APPCRASHes –

– Windows Explorer or IE background fades to white
– small blue circle spinning endlessly
– "Not Responding.."
– "Internet Explorer must close…."

Once the Internet Security Application is removed, the APPCRASHes go away. 1st experienced this in late 2007 and removed NIS – case solved.

This is for both Vista & Windows 7; they all run on XP just fine.
The reason XP fine — its users run at FULL admin all the time, where Vista/ 7 run as regular users until elevation needed – the UAC kicks in. The firewall drivers cannot jump through the 2 security levels in V/7.

Information Provided by John(jcgriff2)

I hope points John mentioned about Internet security with Vista/ 7 is quiet clear. If you see NT Exception 0xc0000005 with svchost then it’s quiet clear that it’s caused by Internet Security.

The Main one are NIS, KIS, N360, McAfee, COMODO, Ad-Aware, etc…

One of the notorious one and well know for BSOD is Zone Alarm if you see NETIO.sys most probably the cause would Zone Alarm I have seen in lot of cases.

Most of the time removing the Internet security leave lot of traces behind which would still cause lot of problems. So it’s always *highly* recommended to use Removal Tools after uninstalling from Programs and Features.

There are few website that provides information about where to download them and how to use them.

Please be careful while using the Uninstallers / Removal Tools because they might damage your System if you didn’t follow manufactures instructions properly.

Recommendations !!

You might be wondering “What next”

So after removing Internet Security I wouldn’t recommend to run without any protection.

As far as have seen with very less foot print and highly recommended one is

Microsoft Security Essentials

For added protection I would recommended Malwarebytes and WinPatrol

Note: The free version has limited features mostly there is no real time protection but it’s worth buying it

I really don’t see any point in going for a highly paid Internet security because the free ones does a good job. Paid one might have lot of bells and whistles which don’t really matters.  Well it’s my opinion Winking smile
